Frequently Asked Questions

Once I start do I need to go forever?

It depends on your goals. When you meet Dr. Bre she will gain an idea of where you currently are and where you want to be. For some that means “please get rid of my back pain so I can work” or “get rid of my migraines so I can be a better mother.” We call this Pain-Based Care; this phase of care can range from 4-8 weeks. Some patients say, “get rid of my headaches and help me so it does not come back.” We call this Preventative Care; this can vary greatly depending on severity and how long you have had the symptom but a good range would be 8-12 weeks with a maintenance plan after that. There are still other patients who say “Wow! This completely makes sense and I want to ensure my nerve system is working optimally for a lifetime!” We call this Performance Care; this requires that you “go forever.” However, our goal is always to get you to a point of maintenance as quickly as possible.

Many of our patients choose Preventative Care and Performance Care; this is because once they are out of pain they want to stay that way. This is similar to getting in shape; once you get there you want to stay in shape; which requires maintenance at the gym or elsewhere.

How much will it cost?

Many people are afraid to go to a Chiropractor fearing it will cost a lot of money. Dr. Bre prides herself on never creating “surprises” in the billing department. This means explaining what the problem is and creating a plan to make it better. You will have an approximation of visits and how much it will cost before you proceed with care. Be assured that Health Living Chiropractic provides payments plans to meet a variety of needs. Patients are rarely discouraged from care based on fees. If you still have hesitations you can set up a Complimentary Consultation with Dr. Bre by calling 608-781-2881.

What is a subluxation?

The technical definition is a bone or joint out in juxtaposition creating less than a luxation.

But what does that mean? Possibly the better question, what would cause subluxation?

In other words, subluxation is anything that interferes with your nerve system and its ability to heal or send messages to other parts of your body. So, think of your body as a closed safety pin. (This is how your body works, like a feedback loop…brain to body, then body back to brain) If you were to open the safety pin, the cycle would be broken and the brain could no longer appropriately communicate with the rest of the body and vice versa.

So, what causes subluxation?  In short, stress. However, there are different kinds of stress: physical, chemical, and psychological. This is where HLC is different, we address (adjust) subluxation to restore whole body communication as well as identify your specific kinds of stress to reduce subluxation in the future.

Why is there a “popping noise?”

Traditionally, there is a popping noise associated with a chiropractic adjustment. This is nothing more than gas leaving the joint as the bone moves. If you already know you do not like this or are nervous about it, be assured that Dr. Bre knows many Chiropractic techniques, some which do not require popping. It is not necessary to hear the “pop” to get results.

I heard children get adjusted, is that safe?

It may not look exactly the same as seeing an adult get adjusted but it is just as important! The nerve system is rapidly developing from the minute of conception into the early years of a child’s life. This is one of the best times to get this system checked and adjusted if necessary.
